This week’s notices (26th October 2018)

Notices for this week
(26th October 2018)

Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, 28th October 2018, at 2:00am)
Daylight saving time ends this Sunday at 2:00am so don’t forget to put your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night (or Sunday morning if you’re an owl rather than a lark)!  Don’t be that family that turns up an hour early as we will mock you!

Light Party (5:30pm to 6:30pm, Wednesday 31st October)
As an alternative to Halloween, join us for a Celebration of Light with games, songs, crafts and snacks!  This party is for anyone in Reception to Year 6, and is an ideal event to invite friends to.  Children are invited to dress up – but please, nothing scary!  Please let David Rue know asap if your child will be attending and/or if you can help out on the day.

Christianity Explored (Wednesdays 31st October, 14th & 28th November, 12th & 19th December)
The Christianity Explored course continues this Wednesday – because of the Light Party, there’s no meal beforehand and we will start downstairs in the undercroft at 8:00pm.  A great opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed environment – the course is suitable for everyone, whether you’re a new Christian, don’t know what you believe, or have been coming to church for years and just want a ‘refresher’ on what Christians’ believe!  Please email or speak to Tom if you’re interested in coming along – it’s not too late to join.

Relaunch of small groups – last chance to sign up!
We are about to relaunch the small groups at St John’s.  If you are new to the church or have not previously been part of one, this is a great opportunity to join one.  For more info, please visit www.sjdh.org/smallgroups.  Note that existing small groups continue as normal until the end of October.

Vision evening (7:30pm, Wednesday 7th November))
An opportunity to hear an update on the ‘Vision’ meetings we had earlier in the year together with an update on Finance and our Mission Partners plus a time of prayer.  We will meet at 7:30pm for a meal and begin the formal part of our meeting at 8:00pm.

(Note: this meeting will be repeated at 9:30am on Monday 12th November for those who are unable to make an evening meeting.)

Wednesday Central – next meeting on Wednesday 14th November
Please note that, because of the Light Party and the Vision meeting, the next meeting of Wednesday Central will be on Wednesday 14th November.

‘The God Particle’ (7:30pm, Saturday 17th November) – tickets available now!
A scientist and a vicar walk into a bar…
A quantum physicist and a vicar walk into a bar.  Joining forces to solve a perplexing mystery, they discover the real meaning of faith, knowledge, love, and the importance of keeping an open mind.  The God Particle is a romantic comedy play and DVD with a hint of sci-fi from award-winning co-writer of BBC1’s Miranda, BBC3’s Bluestone 42 and Radio 4’s Another Case of Milton Jones.  It’s deep, smart, and very funny.

A short play about the meaning of life and a great event to invite friends and family to. More information is available on our website, including a short trailer.  Do let Kerry know if you can help on the day (e.g. selling tickets, serving refreshments, welcome, and clear up).  To purchase tickets, please visit our booking page here (they’re cheaper if you book in advance online!).

Singleness in the Church Conference – Highgate Road Chapel (10:00am to 4:00pm, Saturday 10th November)
Equipping and supporting single people – a conference for singles of all ages and married people interested in supporting singles in the church.  The conference is taking place at Highgate Road Chapel, Chetwynd Road, London, NW5 1BU – more details, including programme, speakers, and cost can be found here.

Welcome Tea for Newcomers (4:00 to 6:00pm, Sunday 11th November)
If you have recently joined St John’s and would like a chance to get to know us better, do join us for afternoon tea and an opportunity to chat with other members of the church family.  Do let the Office know if you would like to come along!

Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child – Shoebox Appeal

A small shoebox can have a big impact.  What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal.  Be a part of changing children’s lives all over the world in Jesus’ name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.  See the impact a simple shoebox gift packed and sent with love, has on a child and how it reaches into a community.  More information on how to pack a shoebox can be found here – please note that the last day for dropping off filled shoeboxes at St John’s is Sunday, 11th November.

So you can listen to all our previous talks and catch up on any that you’ve missed if you’ve been away or unable to come to church for any reason.
