A bible-believing Anglican church in Hampstead, NW3

This week’s notices (24th February 2018)

Notices for this week
(23rd February 2018)

Women’s Prayer Meeting (Monday, 26th February, 9:30am)
We will meet at 9.30am for drinks and fellowship, beginning to pray at 10:00am and finishing at 11:00am.  There will be a creche available.  Please do come and pray – all are welcome!
Farwell to the East Family!
This Sunday is Matt, Claire, James, George & Sarah Easts last Sunday with us before they move to Hertfordshire.  Do come and say goodbye and pray for them all as they leave for pastures new.
Andy Palmer (Leaving Gift)
Andy, Hannah, Chloe, and Caleb will be leaving St John’s at the end of March as Andy takes up his post as Senior Minister at Christ Church, Balham.  Their last Sunday with us will be on the 25th March and, as a church family, we would like to mark the occasion appropriately.  To that end, you will find envelopes on the chairs for you to make a donation to his leaving gift.  (Cheques should be made payable to ‘St John’s Downshire Hill’ and annotated on the back to say “Staff Leaving Gift”; similarly, bank transfers should also have the reference “Staff Leaving Gift”.)  Envelopes should be dropped in the ‘Donations’ box on the side of the welcome desk at the back of church.
Would you like to be baptised? (Sunday, 11th March, 10:30am)
If so, please do contact Tom or Andy asap if you would like to be baptised or want to reaffirm your baptismal vows if you were baptised as a baby.
Save the Date – Dei Gratia concert (Tuesday, 27th March, 8:00pm onwards)
The Dei Gratia baroque ensemble will be playing a shortened version of Bach’s St John Passion, which will include an evangelistic talk.  The perfect event to invite people to in the run-up to Easter.  More details to follow shortly.
Questions for Life‘ (Monday 12th to Friday 29th March)
Do you work in Central London?  From 12-29 March there is a city workplace mission entitled “Questions for Life”.  There will be lunchtime and evening events each day across Central London.  They will be excellent events for inviting non-Christian colleagues.  For more info see or talk to Tom.
Save the Date – Weekend Away 2018 (5-7th October 2018)
Please put these dates in your diaries now to avoid clashes – we would love to see everyone there!  This year we are returning to Denham Grove and Andrew Latimer will be speaking to us from Ecclesiastes.  More information, including application forms, will be available after Easter.
Life Explored

We’ve started ‘Life Explored’ but it’s not too late to come along and join us over the next couple of weeks when we will be looking at the following issues:

26th Feb – The Life-Giving God – What, if you lost it, would make you feel that life wasn’t worth living?
5th March The Joyful God – What’s the best gift God could give you?

We will meet in the undercroft at 7:30pm for a meal followed by a short film and discussion.  If you (or a friend) are interested in finding out more, please email David or visit our website for more details.
Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) at St John’s

Next meeting of the CMF North London group is on Thursday, 15th March, 6:30pm to 9:00pm, at 122 Chomley Gardens, NW6, dinner provided.  Please let Siobhan Burns or Karen Chitra know if you’d like to attend.
CMF Day Conference – Saline Solution, Saturday, 17th March, 9:30am to 4:30pm in the undercroft.  An event for Christian doctors and healthcare professionals to think through how to share the good news in their workplace.  Contact Karen Chitra for more details.
Save the Date – Easter Holiday Club 2018 (Tuesday 10th to Friday 13th April 2018)
Our Easter Holiday Bible Club is for all primary school children and will run in the mornings.  If you’d like more information about what happens, please speak to Kerry Jones, Gareth & Siobhán Burns, or Tom Brown.  In previous years we have had helpers from all ages and we will need lots of help this year too – you don’t have to commit to the full week, if you can do one or two days that would also be great!

This year we will be using the Mega Makers! material from Scripture Union, which is based on Matthew’s Gospel.  It explores the theme of inventions, and that the more we discover about God, the vaster his love for us may seem.

Please let Kerry know if you are able to help in any way.
Save the Date – Colin Buchanan concert (Friday, 20th April, 5:15pm, St James Muswell Hill)
The writer of ‘Super Saviour’ and ‘Jesus Saves’ is touring the UK and will be performing at St James, Muswell Hill on Friday 20th April.  An event not to be missed!
Summer Venture Camp (21st to 27th August, 2018): bookings open now!
Going to camp is a fantastic way for kids to have fun, make friends and learn more about Jesus.  This is a great camp for 10-13 year olds and comes highly recommended!
Sign up for the St John’s podcast here
So you can listen to all our previous talks and catch up on any that you’ve missed if you’ve been away or unable to come to church for any reason.
Chalk Farm Foodbank
We have a box at the back of church for anyone who wants to contribute.  Urgent needs this week are: tinned tomatoes, tinned fruit, tinned meat e.g. Fray Bentos pies, chicken in sauce, corned beef, ham, and long life (UHT) milk.  Please ensure that everything is in date otherwise we can’t donate it.
